WCB Coverage for PTSD and other Psychological Injuries (March 11/16)

For some workers, trauma is a workplace hazard.

If you are diagnosed by a psychologist or psychiatrist with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to job-related trauma, and you have WCB coverage, then you may qualify for compensation. WCB coverage would apply whether the PTSD resulted from a single traumatic event, or, from the cumulative effects of more than one traumatic event.

Just as with other workplace injuries, the Workers’ Compensation Act sets out some timelines related to claims for compensation. It’s important that we receive the claim within a year of your diagnosis of PTSD. When the traumatic event or events actually occurred is not the important factor.

However, even if it has been more than a year since you were diagnosed, please contact us to discuss whether you may qualify for benefits.
