A Clearance Letter confirms that a company is in good standing. This means that the company has workers' compensation coverage, has met all payroll reporting requirements, has paid all premiums to date and has no outstanding balance on account.
Any time you hire a subcontractor, you should request a clearance letter to ensure they are covered by the WCB, and in good standing.
Requesting these letters is fast and easy through MyAccount as you can:
- Create and Manage Subcontractors - add subcontractors you use often to a printable subscription list.
- Print Clearance Letters - produce a clearance letter for your own business when you are bidding on work.
- Email Notification - we'll notify you monthly if there's a change in their status.
HINT: If you hire sub-contractors, make sure you obtain a clearance letter from them as proof of WCB coverage. If a contractor does not have WCB coverage, you are responsible for them and are required to pay premiums based on the labour amount of the contract. Any injuries sustained by them on your jobsite will become part of your injury history with the WCB.
