Direct Access to Physiotherapy

Direct Access to Physiotherapy provides injured workers more timely access to the health care services they need. It enables workers to go directly to a physiotherapist for an assessment, allowing the return-to-work process for sprain and strain injuries to begin right away.

The WCB asked a group of worker and employer representatives to form a working group and provide ideas about opportunities to enhance this approach. Their report found Direct Access to Physiotherapy to be appropriate, but identified stakeholders' concerns and areas for improvement.

Our primary goals in responding to the report’s recommendations were to develop communication materials that define roles and responsibilities, manage expectations and educate those involved. 

The following materials reflect those goals and our commitment to improving the implementation of Direct Access to Physiotherapy in support of safe and timely return to work.
