HEALTH CARE PROVIDER AND RETURN TO WORK

SUPPORTING PEOPLE AS THEY RECOVER FROM WORKPLACE INJURY

A safe and timely return to work can be good for an employee’s recovery on a social, mental, physical, and financial level.

How to support a worker's successful return to work:

  • Understand the work environment and job demands.

Compare the employee’s functional ability assessment to the functional job demands to determine what the employee can safely do.

  • Discuss the value of being at work during the recovery process with the employee and the employer.

Positive encouragement goes a long way. Encouraging both the employee and employer helps to instill confidence and motivate them.

  • Help determine transitional work.

As part of the support team, help the employer identify how to modify the employee’s role or find alternate, temporary, meaningful work. Transitional work helps keep a valued employee connected to the workplace – and that’s good for both employee and employer.

  • Follow their progress.

Collaborate with the WCB case worker, and communicate regularly with the employer and physician. Help the employee’s recovery by updating their return-to-work plan and their transitional work.

  • Use WCB Online Services.

Use WCBOnline to submit forms, reports, and invoices as well as communicate securely with the WCB about return-to-work plans and more.
