COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) (Mar 13/20)

As information about COVID-19 evolves, WCB Nova Scotia continues to monitor the progression of the virus and refer to the guidance of public health officials.

Nova Scotians can find the most accurate and up-to-date information at novascotia.ca/coronavirus. Both the Government of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada have developed a number of resources to help workers and employers minimize the coronavirus impact in their workplaces.

Here are some links and resources to share in your workplace:

As with any claim received, WCB Nova Scotia will adjudicate claims related to COVID-19 on a case-by-case basis. As set out in the Workers’ Compensation Act, compensation is only available for a work-related injury or illness. It is not provided for workers who cannot work for preventative or precautionary reasons, such as a quarantine situation.

Workers in quarantine or who have been directed to self-isolate should refer to their employers’ sick leave policies and the Government of Canada’s employment insurance policy, which has recently been amended in response to COVID-19 concerns.

The health and safety of our employees, and of those we serve, remains our top priority. We will provide updates, as necessary, should there be further developments in this evolving situation.
