WCB Named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers

The WCB has been selected as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2012 – a special designation recognizing employers in Canada that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

As one of only four Nova Scotia employers to receive this distinction, the WCB was included among an exclusive list featured in the Globe & Mail on October 7, 2011. We’re proud to be keeping company with some large, national organizations including TD Bank, Bayer, Xerox Canada and Bombardier.

Among other things, the WCB was selected for:

  • Supporting employees who are new parents with parental leave top-up payments;
  • Encouraging ongoing employee development through tuition subsidies, training and mentoring programs;
  • Encouraging children of employees to pursue post-secondary education with an academic scholarship program; and
  • Helping older workers prepare for retirement with retirement planning workshops, contributions to a defined benefit pension plan, and health benefits that extend into retirement.

For the past three years the WCB has been selected as a Top Nova Scotia Employer, and last year, we were also named a Top Atlantic Employer. Being included in the top 100 list for Canada for the first time is a major accomplishment on a national scale and a significant honour – one of which we’re very proud.

We have seen significant reductions in workplace injuries in Nova Scotia over the past few years. Last year, less than 7,000 people were injured seriously enough to lose time from work for the first time in over a decade.

“This progress is due to the dedication of our 400 employees who come to work each day to make a difference,” says Stuart MacLean, CEO (Acting). “But we know we still have much work to do. This type of recognition will help us stay focused as we work toward our vision – a Nova Scotia safe and secure from workplace injury.”
