December 12, 2014 (Halifax, NS) - Paula Arab, Workers’ Compensation Board Legal Counsel, has been appointed Queen’s Counsel, one of the highest honours you can receive within the legal profession in Nova Scotia.
The Queen's Counsel designation is awarded annually to members of the legal profession to recognize exceptional merit and outstanding contributions to the legal community. In Nova Scotia, an independent advisory committee makes Q.C. recommendations to cabinet.
“This is a huge accomplishment in Paula’s 25 year career in law,” said Leo McKenna, the WCB’s Chief Financial Officer. “We’ve always known Paula has extraordinary talent when it comes to the law and this external acknowledgement shows her peers recognize this too.”
While Paula’s professional achievements are numerous, the appointment to Queen’s Counsel is more than just a reflection of her work. Not only is she the mother of two active teenagers, Paula is very active in her community. In addition to supporting a variety of charities, she has taught Advanced Decision Writing for Administrative Tribunals, served on the Psychiatric Facilities Review Board, and was Chair and Vice-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Insurance and Administrative law sections. She currently sits on the Court of Appeal Liaison committee and the Motor Vehicle Appeal Board.
Paula’s contributions to her community are significant and truly make her worthy of this very special distinction.
