Does your trucking firm travel outside of Nova Scotia? Are you managing workers’ compensation accounts in several provinces?
Generally, every workers’ compensation board in Canada requires a trucking firm from another province or territory to pay premiums for each driver who travels in or through their province or territory based on the number of kilometers travelled in their area. The result is often excess paper work and premiums being paid to the wrong board.
To make reporting easier for trucking firms that travel through more than one province or territory, the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada and the Canadian Trucking Association worked together to create the Alternative Assessment Procedure (AAP).
What is AAP?
AAP is an optional program that lets you pay premiums only to the workers’ compensation boards of the provinces where you have workers or brokers living. No more reporting based on kilometers travelled and having accounts in areas that you only travel through.
There is no cost to be part of AAP.
Who Can Enroll?
Any firm operating in the following interjurisdictional trucking and transport industries may opt to participate in AAP:
Bulk liquids trucking; Couriers, messengers, and delivery; Dry bulk materials trucking; Forest products trucking; General freight trucking; Specialized freight trucking; Used household and office goods moving; Charter bus industry; Interurban and rural bus transportation; Land, scenic, and sightseeing transportation
Please note that only travel within Canada is covered under the program. Travel in the United States is excluded.
How do you Apply?
Simply complete an application and return it to the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia. To participate for the current year, your application must be received by February 28. Applications received after that date will start your participation as of January 1 of the following year.
