WCB December Performance (Jan. 9/26)

Last year marked a turning point for workplace safety in Nova Scotia. Fewer workers were injured on the job than ever before, and those who needed our support recovered and returned to work faster.

Each number tells a story — an injury that didn’t happen, a recovery that stayed on track, a worker back on the job with the right support, and a loved one coming home safe at the end of the day.

In 2025, we saw our provincial injury rate drop from 1.38 to 1.22 – our lowest on record. We also reached our lowest number of time-loss days paid, dropping from 269 to 226. Our dedication to excellent service meant people received support faster and more consistently, with first contact increasing from 77% to 92%, entitlement decisions within seven days rising from 64% to 79%, and first payments within 15 days improving from 64% to 75%.

As we look to the year ahead, our focus remains the same: preventing injury, helping more people return to work sooner and safely, holding ourselves and each other accountable, continuing to improve how we deliver service, and – above all else – keeping people at the centre of every decision.

“This progress is about people, and making sure the system shows up for them when they need it most,” says Lisa Scallion, Vice President, Service Excellence. “By setting clear standards that focus on timely access, consistency, and accountability in health care, we’re helping more people recover and return to work sooner, safely, and with confidence.”
