About WCB Nova Scotia

Learn more about WCB Nova Scotia and how we protect the Nova Scotia workforce.

WCB protects Nova Scotia’s workforce. We are the province’s provider of workplace injury insurance. Every day, we prevent workplace injury. When it happens, we help the people whose lives it touches, supporting an early and safe return to work. We also provide caring and compassionate support to families in the wake of a workplace tragedy.

Under the Workers’ Compensation Act, WCB provides coverage for workers and employers. We are proud to protect about 20,000 Nova Scotia employers, and their more than 395,000 workers. We set and collect employer premiums, make claims decisions, and support recovery and return-to-work plans. We keep the system financially stable, so benefits are there when Nova Scotians need them. We hold ourselves accountable to high service standards—backed by open reporting and measurable outcomes.

Land Acknowledgment

At the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia, we acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the traditional unceded and current territory of the Mi’kmaq. We are all treaty people who benefit greatly from the shared resources of this land, covered by the treaties of Peace and Friendship.

As the province’s provider of workplace injury insurance, we are grateful to work on this land. We are committed to building trusted relationships with Indigenous peoples—to learn about their community, to better understand their history from their perspectives, and to help us provide exceptional service to all Nova Scotians, as we work toward reconciliation and equity within our community.
