WCB Nova Scotia is committed to protecting the information of the people we serve, in accordance with the Province’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and our own privacy policies.

Our Commitment to Privacy

As Nova Scotia’s provider of workplace injury insurance, WCB handles information that personally identifies individuals. We collect, use, and access only the personal information we need to make decisions about claims for compensation, to pay earning loss benefits, to support the recovery of injured workers, and to assist in safe and timely return to work.

WCB handles over 1 million transactions each year involving personally identifying information (PII) 

We have a responsibility to protect the privacy and the personal information of the people we serve and are committed to maintaining the accuracy, confidentiality, security, and privacy of this information.

All employees, including board members, are required to complete annual privacy training. If privacy breaches do occur, our goal is to contain, remedy, and learn from them to prevent re-occurrences.

WCB Privacy Concern Process

You have the right to express a concern or make a complaint about the way the WCB handled the information we collected from you in order to carry out our mandate. If you do not understand how or why your information was acquired or shared, you can get clarity on this from the WCB Case worker or adjudicator.  If you believe  your privacy was breached (meaning PII was disclosed to or accessed by someone not authorized to see it), you can follow our WCB’s Privacy Complaint Process or contact a privacy coordinator at (902) 491-8103. Privacy While Visiting our Website

Your privacy is protected while visiting our website. By using the WCB’s website you consent that you have read, understood, and agree to the terms of this privacy statement. This includes our policies on how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and retained

With the following exceptions, we do not collect personal information from people who use our website::

  • If you fill out a form to give us feedback or to be sent specific content and other information, we will collect your name and contact information.
  • If you register for a webinar, sign up for an e-newsletter, or other special event, we will collect your contact information.
  • Unless you tell us otherwise, you consent to our collection of this personal information, , and to use it or disclosure it in any way that complies with our privacy policy.

We do not provide mailing lists to external parties, and we publish your personal information only if we have your advanced consent.

Please do not use email to send us sensitive personal information. We cannot guarantee the security of email. If you need to address a sensitive matter, please contact us by telephone or regular letter mail.

How WCB uses cookies

  • The WCB uses cookies during your visit to our website.

Essential (functional) cookies, which are necessary for the website to operate correctly, will be used regardless of your selection.

  • We do not use cookies to retrieve information other than the information that was originally sent in a cookie.

Site Analytics

WCB Nova Scotia uses Google Analytics on all of our websites to help us understand how website visitors use our websites. This helps us make the websites more useful. Google Analytics store information about:

  • how you came to the website
  • what you click while you are visiting the website
  • the type of browser or device
  • date and time.

Google Analytics does not collect personal information like your name and address. Data collected by Google may be stored outside of Canada.

We are also improving our products and advertising by using Microsoft Clarity to see how you use our website. By using our site, you agree that we and Microsoft can collect and use this data.

Our web servers also automatically collect and log some information about your computer and your visits to our website. This information is gathered by WCB in aggregate and used for statistical purposes only. It is not linked to other data in a way that would enable us to identify individual visitors unless in accordance with the  Corporate Information Protection Policy and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

 

WCB Online Services Terms of Use: WCB Nova Scotia provides secure online services for workers, employers, and service providers under specific Terms of Use.

 

Terms of Social Media Use:  WCB Nova Scotia is present on X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. As each social media platform uses their own terms, please read them before communicate with WCB using these platforms.
