Workplace Safety and Insurance System (WSIS)

The Workplace Safety and Insurance System (WSIS) brings together the people and organizations that support workplace health, safety, and insurance in Nova Scotia. Together, they help prevent workplace injuries and ensure support for workers and employers when injuries happen.

WSIS provides a shared framework for how these groups work together. It helps them set common goals, track progress, and find ways to make the system better for everyone. The framework also gives partners a way to identify shared priorities and coordinate efforts where collaboration makes sense.

Each organization in the system has its own laws, leadership, and responsibilities, but they work together toward the same goal—a safer, healthier Nova Scotia workforce.

Governance

The WCB Board Chair and the Deputy Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration lead the system’s Coordinating Committee.

Together, they guide the system’s work and make sure all partners are moving toward shared goals. This includes looking for ways to improve legislation and strengthen how the system works overall. They’re supported by the leaders of each system organization, along with other staff as needed.

Annual Meetings

Every year, WSIS hosts a public meeting to share progress and hear directly from workers, employers, and safety partners. We also issue a summary compilation of performance measures.
