Code of Conduct

Respectful Interactions at WCB Nova Scotia

Help us create a respectful and safe environment for everyone.

WCB Nova Scotia is committed to providing a safe, respectful environment for WCB staff, workers, employers, service providers and partners where everyone is treated with respect.

All WCB staff, workers, employers, service providers  and partners are expected to:

  • Treat each other with dignity, kindness, and respect
  • Communicate clearly, honestly, and professionally
  • Listen to and work cooperatively with one another
  • Respect diversity in all its forms
  • Avoid behaviours that harm others, including yelling, threatening language, harassment, intimidation, or discrimination
  • Report concerns if respectful conduct is not followed

Our commitment to you

When you contact WCB Nova Scotia, you can expect us to treat you with respect. We will listen carefully, provide clear information, and work with you professionally-even when situations are complicated or frustrating. We’re here to help, wherever we can.

Working together

We believe the best outcomes happen when we treat each other well. We ask that you:

  • Speak with our team the way you'd want to be spoken to
  • Share information clearly and honestly
  • Be patient, especially during stressful moments

Behaviours that will not be allowed

We all do better when we avoid things that are harmful to others.  These are examples of behaviours that will not be allowed:

  • Yelling, swearing, or using threatening language
  • Bullying, harassment, or intimidation of any kind
  • Discrimination
  • Giving us information you know to be false

What happens when respectful interactions don’t happen

Our goal, always, is to find a way forward and to help wherever we can.  This must happen respectfully.

Our first step is to pause and reset. We will:

  • Tell you that your behaviour is not acceptable, and remind you that we are here to help
  • Suggest continuing the conversation at another time

In situations where safety is a concern or communication can't move forward respectfully, we will need to temporarily adjust how we provide service. This could include:

  • Ending a conversation
  • Sending you a warning in writing
  • Requiring you to communicate in writing
  • Pausing a process, or delaying benefits until we can work together productively

These steps are never taken lightly. Our goal is always to find a way forward and resume respectful communications.

We are committed to psychological safety for everyone

If you feel a WCB employee hasn't treated you with respect, please let us know. Call 1-800-870-3331 or contact Client Relations Officer.  We take these concerns seriously because we are committed to protecting the psychological safety of everyone. This includes our employees, as well as workers, employers, service providers, and system partners.
