What is work-connected recovery?
The Work-Connected Recovery (WCR) program is a network of WCB-approved health care providers.
- It enables fast access to a WCB-covered assessment after a workplace injury, with further treatment when needed.
- The program connects you with physiotherapists, kinesiologists, chiropractors, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other health care providers across Nova Scotia—so you get consistent, high-quality care and can start your recovery right away.
- Your providers remain independent—they follow the same standards so you get consistent support no matter which provider you see.
- Your provider works with you on recovery and return-to-work planning from the beginning—making sure both happen safely.
- These providers work alongside the care you receive from physicians and other medical specialists (when needed)—while helping keep you connected to work during recovery.

How to access care
For a physical injury including a sprain, strain or concussion:
- Call our appointment coordinators at 1-888-383-3361
- Assessment appointments often happen within 3 days
For a psychological injury:
- You need a referral from WCB
- Call 1-833-491-8889 to speak to a Client Care Navigator—they will help get you started
- Once referred, a clinic will contact you within 24 hours to book your assessment
- Assessment appointments often happen within 5 days
- You can request a specific provider (for example, one you’ve seen before) as long as they’re part of the network and can see you within program timelines
What to expect
All providers in the Work-Connected Recovery network follow the same standards (such as how quickly you get an appointment) and use the same processes (the same forms, reports, and communication).
That means:
- You get quick access to assessment and treatment
- You, your employer, and your WCB case worker all have clear, consistent information
- Everyone has the same goals—to help you recover safely and support your return to work
Your treatment plan might include
- In-person or virtual appointments with your provider
- Exercises and activities you can do on your own
- Online resources to support your recovery
- Appointment reminders
