Trucking – Alternative Assessment Procedure (AAP)

Simplified coverage for interprovincial trucking and transport

If your trucking or bus company travels through multiple provinces or territories, you may qualify for the Alternative Assessment Procedure (AAP). APP is an optional program that simplifies reporting and premium payments for interjurisdictional employers.

What AAP does

Normally, a trucking firm must pay workers’ compensation premiums in each province or territory it operates—based on the number of kilometres travelled there.

With AAP, you pay premiums only to the workers’ compensation boards of the provinces where your workers or brokers live. This means less paperwork and fewer accounts to manage.

There is no cost to participate in AAP.

Who can apply

AAP is available to firms operating in interjurisdictional trucking and transport industries, including:

  • Bulk liquids trucking
  • Couriers, messengers, and delivery
  • Dry bulk materials trucking
  • Forest products trucking
  • General freight trucking
  • Specialized freight trucking
  • Used household and office goods moving
  • Charter bus operations
  • Interurban and rural bus transportation
  • Land, scenic, and sightseeing transportation

Note: AAP covers travel within Canada only. Travel in the United States is not included.
