Trucking in Nova Scotia
Safety can never sleep in trucking
Trucking plays a large and essential role in Nova Scotia’s economy. Over 20,000 workers are involved in the industry, which includes drivers, mechanics, and support staff.
Injuries are preventable
While safety standards have clearly improved, job hazards remain the same. These include driver fatigue, vehicle collisions and chemical exposure. Some of the most common trucking injuries are:
- Heavy lifting and repetitive activity leading to back and shoulder strain as well as ankle sprains
- Entering and exiting cabs leading to slips, trips and falls
Be the driving force
When it comes to safety in trucking, employers need to take the wheel. There are all sorts of resources to help you. Be the driving force and put these safety training programs to work:
- Slips, trips and falls prevention
- Cab entry and exit techniques
- Cargo securement and manual material handling
- Fatigue management
Does your trucking firm travel outside of Nova Scotia?
Are you managing workers’ compensation accounts in several provinces? The Alternative Assessment Procedure (AAP) makes reporting easier for firms that travel through more than one province or territory.

Use the OH&S Risk Mapping Tool for injury prevention to identify and lessen these risks.
The Trucking Safety Association operates through member-funded WCB levies and offers safety programs, training, audits, and mental‑health resources. Be sure to check out their safety videos.
