When Nova Scotians are hurt at work, they want to recover quickly and return to what matters. That is why we are improving how people recover from workplace injuries.
Starting in 2026, injured workers will be assessed and treated more quickly for physical and psychological injuries by health providers who are accountable for recovery and return-to-work results.
Today, we are pleased to share the new province-wide network of providers who will help deliver on this commitment.
The new provider network includes more than 100 independent clinics, many with multiple locations, as well as individual providers, Lifemark clinics, and CBI clinics. A provider is available within 40 km of 99 per cent of Nova Scotians. The network continues to grow, with more providers joining every day.
“We’re pleased most providers wanted to continue with us. That continuity matters — they know this work and the people they help,” said Godfrey Jerry, WCB’s Chief Operating Officer. “And now, with clear standards and accountability in place, we can help more Nova Scotians recover safely and return to work sooner.”
Thanks to strong participation across the province, more than 95 per cent of workers currently in the system can remain with their current provider. For workers who need to change providers, we are matching them to a new provider without interrupting treatment or return-to-work progress.
After a workplace injury, workers will be contacted within 24 hours from a referral and assessed within three days for physical injuries, and within five days for concussions and psychological injuries.
Today, injured workers can wait up to 25 days for concussion treatment and up to 42 days for psychological treatment. People like our paramedics, nurses, and other injured workers will get care sooner.
Early results from a soft launch show the approach is working. Time from referral to assessment, and from injury to treatment, has been cut in half, with positive feedback from case workers, providers, and employers.
