Today marks the 10th Canadian Injury Prevention Day, and here in Nova Scotia, we're celebrating an important milestone: reaching 1.15 time-loss injuries per 100 covered workers.
This milestone marks a significant achievement under our Protect More Strategic Plan, launched in 2024 with the goal of reducing workplace injuries through stronger collaboration between employers, workers, and safety partners across the province.
The launch of Safer Workplaces Together in fall 2025, a joint initiative with the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration, further accelerated that progress.
Tracey Newman, Vice-President of Prevention and Employer Engagement, says: "This milestone belongs to every employer, worker, supervisor and safety partner who has made prevention a daily priority. It's a powerful reminder that when we work together, we can prevent injuries and create safer workplaces for everyone."
This progress, along with improved return to work outcomes and a sustainable financial position, contributed to our first employer rate cut in a generation and improved worker benefits coming in 2027.
For our province, it means more people going home safely at the end of the day. It also means a more productive workforce and a stronger Nova Scotia. And while this target has been met, our work continues.
