For the first time in two decades, the Government of Nova Scotia has established a review to validate issues and opportunities to improve workers’ compensation in Nova Scotia. It’s an important system that helps people, more than most Nova Scotians realize – every single day.

As the largest part of that system, the WCB is a major focus of the review, along with public engagement sessions on preventing harassment in the workplace. WCB Nova Scotia looks forward to participating. We want to hear from Nova Scotians to understand how we can improve our service, and the value we offer.

Together, we can build an even stronger system for tomorrow.

The review is led by our partners – the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration. Find details about the public consultations and how to take part on the following government website pages:

Past Reviews and What We Heard

Listening with a view to improvements.

In recent years, the WCB has been pleased to work with the Office of the Auditor General in a review of our operations and governance. Through the audit in 2018-2019, which included two phases, the Auditor General reviewed WCB’s governance and operations. The Auditor General found:

  • WCB’s governance is sound.
  • WCB manages claims effectively, and in keeping with our policies and procedures, and the organization makes decisions appropriately.
  • Appeals were evaluated in line with policies.

At the same time, the review offered a number of important areas for improvement, including timeliness of decisions and communication improvements. WCB Nova Scotia has implemented these improvements, with one improvement still being finalized.

We are committed to continuously improving our service to the workers and employers of our province.
