Duty to Cooperate

Working together on safe, timely return to work

In the fall of 2024, the provincial government introduced the Stronger Workplaces for Nova Scotia Act – a legislative amendment that empowers WCB through Duty to Cooperate to support workers and employers on a safe and timely return to work.

Duty to Cooperate is effective July 15, 2025.

There’s no doubt – we all want Nova Scotians working. But if an injury does happen, workers and employers have a role to play from day one to create a quick path back to meaningful work when it’s safe to do so. We will be there every step of the way - working as a team across the system to make this happen. When we work together, we create better outcomes for everyone. Because we all want the same thing: Nova Scotians working.
