WCB Sponsors Event for First Responders and Frontline Professionals (Aug. 15/25)

We are proud to sponsor the 11th annual Helping the Helpers Awareness and Education Day, taking place Saturday, October 25, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.

The event brings together first responders, allied frontline professionals, and their families to share education, awareness, and coping strategies for psychological workplace injuries, including PTSD and other work-related mental health challenges. Our Vice President of Psychological Injury and Continuous Improvement, Mark Roach, will be one of the event’s featured speakers.

“Stigma can quietly destroy lives by keeping people from accessing care or even talking about their life experiences,” says Roach. “We know that being able to talk about traumatic experiences is part of the healing process. This conference creates a safe space to talk openly about PTSD, its prevalence, and its impact on the lives of First Responders and their loved ones. This is a big step forward in addressing the stigma that First Responders who serve our communities so selflessly often face.”

In 2024, 194 Nova Scotians lost time from work due to a traumatic psychological injury. Last year, WCB also expanded coverage to include gradual onset psychological injuries, introducing a new service model that connects people immediately with community-based mental health supports.

We are honoured to stand alongside the Helping the Helpers Planning Committee and the many professionals who work to build safer, healthier workplaces.
