Billing

WCB Nova Scotia works with MSI/Medavie Blue Cross to process physician invoices. All billing goes through Medavie Blue Cross, unless otherwise approved. If you have a question about fees, billing, or error codes, contact the MSI assessment staff by phone at 902-496-7011 or by fax at 902-490-2275.

MSI assessment staff will troubleshoot and if required, connect with WCB for authorization on your behalf. This process may take up to two weeks. MSI assessment staff will connect with your office to provide updates when they are available throughout this process.

WCB requires a WCB claim number or the month and year of the worker’s injury when submitting a bill for payment. This helps prevent billing errors and the need for payment reversals.

Submitting bills using only the claim number is recommended. If the claim number is unknown and the date of injury is required, use only the month and year.

Occasionally, bills may be marked as “held” in your billing software. This occurs when a bill matches to a WCB client, however, the system flagged issues with the submitted information. The system will auto-review this bill each day for 30 days. If it remains outstanding following that, the bill will be manually reviewed by MSI.

You are now notified when there are eligibility changes related to a worker receiving care. For example, we’ll notify you when coverage has been approved, denied, or closed, and if a worker transitions to receiving long-term benefits from a return-to-work plan.

Some fees that are outside the fee schedule and cannot be processed by Medavie Blue Cross may be billable directly to WCB. If direct billing is allowed, your invoice must contain:

• the worker’s name, date of birth, address, and health card number;
• WCB claim number;
• date and type of service rendered;
• invoice number for your records; and
• fee for service rendered.

You can fax your invoice to 902-491-8001, or you can mail it to the address below. Please note that we do not accept invoices by email.
