Managing a claim

Managing a claim is a team effort that includes the WCB, the worker and their employer, and you—the worker’s physician.

Providing timely care to the patient, and timely information to us, is a crucial part of your patient’s recovery.

Just as important is providing leadership and advice that supports keeping the worker connected to work.

Your role as a physician

As the worker’s physician, you are crucial to the team providing timely and appropriate care.

In providing WCB regular 8/10 reports, you ensure we’re up-to-date on your patient’s progress and benefit needs.

This form requires you to describe your patient’s functional abilities and provides an opportunity for you to describe how they can stay connected to work through modified duties. Staying at work for even just a few hours a week helps workers heal.

This is not about rushing people back to work. Doing what’s best for your patient—which includes keeping them connected to the social and financial benefits of work—is a vital part of recovery.

Please use this form to describe:

  • The patient’s description of the incident;
  • The patient’s current concerns and any related past medical history or current health conditions;
  • Your diagnosis and diagnostic suggestions;
  • The patient’s current work capabilities; and
  • Relevant objective findings, including your observations for the patient’s ability to recover at work or return to work.
