WCB releases 2025 Annual Report: A stronger system built on shared accountability

WCB Nova Scotia's 2025 Annual Report tells a clear story of a system that's stronger because of shared accountability across the system.

Fewer people are getting hurt at work than ever before. When injuries do happen, more people are making work part of recovery and getting back to their everyday lives sooner.

The second year of our Protect More Strategic Plan reflects a WCB that has changed: strategic, proactive, and most of all, accountable.

In 2025, that meant more than 83,000 additional working days returned to Nova Scotia's workforce compared to the year before.

New Duty to Cooperate legislation reinforced that recovery at work is a shared responsibility, and other legislative changes paved the way for the first employer rate cut in a generation and improved worker benefits.

We prepared for the launch of Work-Connected Recovery, a new approach to treatment and care that connects workers to help faster after an injury.

And we launched Safer Workplaces Together, a new injury prevention strategy with the Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration.

These improvements reflect what's possible with accountability across the system, and a shared commitment to safer workplaces and keeping Nova Scotians working.

This progress has continued in 2026. In June, we shared that the system is funded at 117 per cent and announced a 15 per cent employer rate cut in 2027 that will add $75 million back into our economy. And also that month, we reached the lowest injury rate in the province's history with more than 4 in 5 people are returning to work within 90 days.

"At the end of the day, our work is about people," says Karen Adams, CEO of WCB Nova Scotia. "Behind every phone call or secure message is someone whose life has been disrupted by injury. With our financial position now stronger than ever, this is the beginning of what we hope are more system improvements to come."

Our focus remains on delivering the service Nova Scotians deserve and continuing to build a stable workers' compensation system for workers, employers, and generations to come.
