Employer Reminder: Subcontractor reports no longer required (March 3/21)

As a reminder, employers are no longer required to complete and submit formal subcontractor reports to WCB Nova Scotia.

If you hire subcontractors who operate in a mandatory industry that do not have WCB Nova Scotia coverage, you should be including the labour portion of those contracts in your regular payroll reporting to the WCB.

If you have already submitted payroll for 2020 and need to make an adjustment to include your subcontractors, you can do so in MyAccount by adjusting the last period of the year to include the labour portion for these subcontractors, and include the additional payment amount in your next remittance.

If you have not completed your reporting and remittances for 2020, please report any additional payroll for the last period of 2020, and make your payment to the WCB as you normally would.

You can find step-by-step guides on how to adjust or submit your payroll in MyAccount at support.wcb.ns.ca.

While we do not require you to submit a list of your subcontractors and their respective payroll, we strongly recommend that you keep your own records for auditing purposes if required.

If you have any questions, please send us a secure message using MyAccount, or call 1-800-870-3331.
