We're seeing real progress. Fewer Nova Scotians are getting hurt on the job, and time-loss injury rates are the lowest on record.
When people do get hurt, more of them are recovering and getting back to work sooner.
Safer Workplaces Together focuses us on where we need to go next. It’s a plan to build a better working future for people in Nova Scotia, one that’s safer and focused on the prevention priorities that matter the most.
Our focus in 2027:
The framework outlines three province-wide prevention goals for 2025-2026:
- Reducing strains and sprains, Nova Scotia’s most common workplace injury.
- Supporting employers in addressing psychological harm, focusing on harassment and traumatic incidents.
- Strengthening frontline leadership by equipping supervisors with the tools and confidence to build strong safety cultures.
What’s happening?
Free monthly webinars
Every month, Nova Scotia employers join a free online session on a real safety challenge, from preventing strains and sprains to handling hard conversations at work. Recent sessions have drawn more than 150 people each. Bring a question. Leave with something you can use.
Communities of Practice
Four times a year, safety professionals and employers meet online to share what's working, talk through shared problems, and build solutions together. The best safety ideas usually come from the people closest to the work.

A safety hub for small business (pilot)
Smaller businesses often don't have a full-time safety person. Our pilot with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) gives up to 200 Nova Scotia small and medium businesses free access to an online safety hub, with checklists, sample policies, and training built for their size.

Get safety training at a discount
As part of Safer Workplaces Together, we’ve partnered with the University of New Brunswick Centre for Learning Futures (UNB) to provide occupational health and safety and psychological safety training at a discount to workers and employers.
