Treatment, Return to Work, and Recovery

When a worker is injured at work, the WCB is there to help. Claim benefits for gradual-onset psychological injuries are set the same way as those for other workplace injuries. We provide several types of benefits and services during treatment and recovery, depending on the injury.

This includes helping ensure you get the treatment and support you need to recover while working or get back to work safely. We also provide temporary income replacement benefits if you are off work.

With the worker and the employer, we help create a return-to-work plan based on duties that can be done safely. Work is an important part of recovery.  You don’t recover to work—you work to recover.

For Employers

Your role in helping plan and support your worker through the return-to-work process is essential to helping them recover and return to work safely and in a timely manner. Some key parts of the role:

  • Build trust and maintain trust
  • Stay connected with the worker and check in on progress
  • Continue to provide or adjust accommodations as needed. Examples of accommodations include:
    • Workload Management: Adjusting workload to reduce stress.
    • Frequent Breaks: Providing additional breaks to help manage stress and fatigue.
    • Flexible Scheduling: Allowing flexible start and end times to accommodate medical appointments or therapy sessions.
