What is Gradual Onset Psychological Injury?

People can experience physical or psychological injuries in the workplace. A work-related psychological injury can occur from sudden, traumatic events in the workplace, or it can occur gradually, over an extended period of time.

A work-related gradual onset psychological injury is caused by repeated significant stressors at work. Most often, these kinds of injuries happen because of ongoing bullying or harassment in the workplace, and they are injuries that build up over time.

We all feel stress while on the job. That’s normal. Missing deadlines, your job being hard, not liking a co-worker or boss, or not liking your job. Generally speaking, it is not the kind of stress that is likely to lead to compensable psychological injury we’re talking about.
